European Commission fines consumer electronics manufacturers approx. € 111 million

The European Commission has fined consumer electronics manufacturers Asus, Denon&Marantz, Philips and Pioneer approx. € 111 million due to their imposing fixed or minimum resale prices on online retailers and thereby violating EU competition rules. It was established that consumer electronics manufacturers restricted online retailers’ freedom to determine resale prices for consumer electronics products such as kitchen appliances, notebooks and wi-fi products; threatened or imposed sanctions on those online retailers not complying with the prices sent by consumer electronics manufacturers, and used complex monitoring tools to monitor resale prices and intervene in case of price decreases.
