The European Commission blocked proposed takeover of the largest Croatian cement producer Cemex Croatia by HeidelbergCement and Schwenk through joint venture Duna Dráva Cement. According to the European Commission the takeover would have decreased competition significantly in the grey cement market and increased prices in Croatia. As a matter of fact, the market shares of the parties could have been around 45-50% in Croatian market and more than %70 in some parts of the country, notably in Dalmatia, leading to inability of the domestic rival suppliers and importers to compete effectively. The press release dated April 5,2017 about the decision is available via http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-17-883_en.htm
